Initial garden consultations are usually 2 hours long.  When we set up an appointment, I’ll send you a short questionnaire about your gardening experience, as well as your hopes and dreams for your edible garden.  You can either send it back to me ahead of time, or save it until our meeting.  We’ll take a few minutes to go over your answers and discuss them before we head out to the garden spaces.

Plan to take lots of notes as we walk through your yard!  If you haven’t started your garden yet, we’ll talk about where and how to site it, types of beds and which are most appropriate for the crops you want to grow.  If your garden is already in place, we’ll talk about what’s working for you and what things you might consider changing. 

Have a list of specific questions you’d like to ask and we’ll go over them as we walk through. Irrigation techniques, fertilization regimes, sustainable pest control and support structures for specific plants are all potentially complex topics that I can help you simplify.  If you need help choosing plant varieties, we’ll go over which are appropriate and reliable in our area and when to plant them for the greatest success.

We’re fortunate in the PNW to be able to grow fresh food all year long.  I can help you create a 4 season planting plan and show you how to protect those plants from the harsh winter weather.  That same temperate climate makes it tricky to ripen warm weather lovers like tomatoes—I have lots of tips to increase your success with them!
